Oblivion Island wins DCAJ Chairman Prize at the 25th Digital Content Grand Prix

October 8, 2010

Shinsuke Sato's CGI animated feature film Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror has been awarded the DCAJ Chairman Prize at the 25th Digital Content Grand Prix. The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo on October 15, 2010.

The jury commented the award as follows:
The mainstream of made-in-Hollywood American animation has consolidated around three-dimensional computer-generated images. In this context, Oblivion Island aims to establish a Japanese way to CG animation, in a challenging effort where both three- and two-dimensional expressive renderings are harmonically implemented.
This effort demonstrates spirit of trial and innovation that should be regarded as an essential driving force in the evolution process of the animation industry.

The 25th Digital Content Grand Prix, cosponsored by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Digital Content Association of Japan (DCAJ) praises those people or companies who brought such technologies, service systems, and hit digital content that helped the Japanese digital content industry grow in 2010.

Production I.G has previously been honored four times with Digital Content Grand Prix recognitions. In 2003 (18th Digital Content Grand Prix) President & CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa received the Chairman Prize for his achievements as producer and entrepreneur. In 2004 (19th Digital Content Grand Prix) Mamoru Oshii's Innocence received the Grand Prix in the Hit Content Division. In 2006, Kenji Kamiyama's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society was awarded the Jury Prize. In 2008, Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers won the Excellence Prize of the 23rd edition.
